Dosage and AdministrationThe usual starting dose is one 5 g sachet of gel per day. Your doctor or pharmacist will tell you exactly how much to use. You should not use more than 10 g of gel per day.

Androgel / Cernos Gel is for use by adult men only.

Do not apply Androgel / Cernos Gel to the testes, scrotum or penis. The high alcohol content may cause local irritation.

Follow these steps when applying Androgel / Cernos gel:

Open the sachet(s) Spread a thin layer of Androgel / Cernos Gel onto clean dry healthy skin over the upper arms, shoulders or stomach. Allow the gel to dry for at least 3-5 minutes before dressing. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the gel. Cover the application area with clothing once the gel has dried. Do not shower for at least six (6) hours after applying Androgel / Cernos Gel.

Apply Androgel / Cernos Gel once per day at approximately the same time each day, preferably in the morning. Using it at the same time each day helps maintain a steady level of testosterone in the blood. It will also help you remember when to apply it.

How long to use itAndrogel / Cernos Gel helps control the symptoms of your condition, but does not cure it. Therefore you must use Androgel / Cernos Gel every day.

Side EffectsTestosterone gel may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

breast enlargement and/or pain decreased sexual desire acne hair loss hot flushes depression mood changes nervousness headache difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep teary eyes changes in ability to smell or taste

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs breathing problems, especially during sleep erections that happen too often or that last too long difficulty urinating frequent urination, especially at night upset stomach vomiting yellow or darkened skin

Medications similar to testosterone that are taken by mouth for a long time may cause serious damage to the liver or liver cancer. Testosterone gel has not been shown to cause this damage. Testosterone may increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking this medication.

Testosterone gel may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

If you forget to use itIf you forget to apply a dose, apply it as soon as you remember.

If you do not remember to apply the dose until the next dose is due, then just apply one dose.

Do not apply a double dose to make up for a forgotten individual dose.

If you use too much (overdose)Immediately telephone your doctor, or the Poisons Information Centre if you think you or anyone else may have used too much Androgel / Cernos Gel.
